WHY CHOOSE Umbria

What I can say is when I first set foot in this little central region 26 years ago, I literally fell in love with it. I had been living in the North of Italy in an equally, though very different, beautiful area, but there was something magical and special about the place. The first place we stopped in was Passignano sul Trasimeno. Here we had lunch in a restaurant looking onto the lake and I just thought "Wow, imagine living here".
Then we moved down to Orvieto where friends of ours had moved and we stayed for a couple of days. What I remember of those days, besides being taken by the wild beauty of the scenary, is how kind people were. They would talk to you with interest in the bars and shops and always greet you, if you asked for directions they would accompany you so that you wouldn't get lost. I certainly wasn't used to this simple but authentic way of being.
You can choose to live here for the weather, for the food, for the music, for the art... but it is the people who make it what it is.

UMBRIA

PERFECT LOCATION
I personally think it is the perfect balanced way of life. You are surrounded by a lush green vegetation, rolling hills, lakes, majestic hilltop villages where time seems to have stopped, but you are only a two hour drive from both Rome and Florence (from where I am, in Panicale). Perugia, a buzzing city which hosts Umbria Jazz and Eurochocolate, only a half hour drive; both Assisi and Siena just over an hour away. You are really in the heart of the country!
The A1 motorway which connects Milan to Rome is easy to reach from almost anywhere and the main train line runs through the region too.
Music events are not only present in the Summer, there is Winter Umbria Jazz too, plays and concerts in the theatres which are really popular in Umbria. Not to mention the various "feste" which happen monthly throughout the year too. Umbria is a different Italy, a place of unchallenged beauty, a place based on the little things of life, those that count the most: family, food and nature.
AMAZING QUALITY OF LIFE
It's just a healthier lifestyle, where you can take things a bit slower than in the cities, where the medieval villages that dot the landscape have remained authentic, but still offer a full range of services for their citizens. It's an affordable life, a simple life, a full life.
The food is scrumptious and the weather great, why not?
